The 7 Best Nightly Beauty Products for Amazing Skin

The 7 Best Nightly Beauty Products for Amazing Skin

Today we are talking about night time skin care!  I have found through trail and error over the years that my skin is always at its best when I am faithful to my night routine.  This means applying the right type of products to my skin in the right order, and never skipping a night even if I am beyond tired.  Healthy skin will not only make you feel great, but it will significantly help your makeup look and feel better over your skin.

I start by removing my makeup with either a makeup removing wipe or my favorite Pond's Cold Cream.  Below are the current products I am using and the order in which I apply them.

The 7 Best Nightly Beauty Products for Amazing Skin

Step #1: Exfoliator

Once your skin is clean of all makeup, always start first with an exfoliation.   Exfoliating your face on a regular basis can completely change your skin.  Ridding your face of dead skin cells will help clear out acne and breakouts and reduce the appearance of large pores.  It also improves your skin's texture, allowing for newer and fresher skin cells to take the place of the dead skin cells.

The reason you should exfoliate as the first step in your nightly skincare routine is because serums and moisturizers are better absorbed when there isn't any dirt or dead skin cells in the way.  Exfoliating on a regular basis will allow your moisturizer to work more effectively and your makeup to go on smoother.

My current favorite is Origins Modern Friction.  It is a plant-based and cruelty-free formula that is soft on my sensitive skin.  I make sure that my skin is wet before massaging the product into my skin.  If you do not have an issue with sensitive skin you can apply this product to dry skin.

Step #2: Cleanser

Cleansing your skin will remove any additional dirt, makeup, impurities, or excess oil that is still on your face.  You can cleanse your skin anywhere from 1-3 times.  The more times you use your cleanser the more dirt and oil you will be eliminating, and the better your skin will feel.

Your skin is a vital exit route in your body's expulsion of toxins and chemicals and 1-3 rounds of nightly cleansing will result in better skin hydration and keep your skin vibrant and healthy.

My current favorite is the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, but I recently ran out and quickly picked up Biore Baking Soda Pore Cleanser.  This product is great for combination skin and works for me in both warmer and dryer weather conditions.

Step #3: Sprays or Mists

Facial sprays or mists are often a forgotten essential within the skincare routine.   Face sprays can soothe and refresh skin, especially important in a hot weather environment, and prepare the skin for premium moisturizer and serum absorption, which is particularly significant in colder climates.

My current favorite is Mario Badescu's Facial Spray.  It contains aloe, herbs and rose water, which have long been a skincare favorites of mine because they are natural products with many great benefits for the skin.  In addition, Mario Badescu makes other amazing and affordable skin care products and I urge you to give them a try!

Step #4: Toner

Using a toner, even if you do not have an acne problem, is a skin care essential.  Toner shrinks pores, moisturizes and refreshes skin, as well as prevents in-grown hairs.  One of the most important functions of using a toner is that it gives your skin pH balance.  After cleansing your skin's natural pH balance is disturbed due to the alkaline nature of soap, and using a toner will help to restore that balance.

My current favorite is SK-II Facial Treatment Essence.  The price for this product is quite steep, but it is well worth the money if you can budget it.  My skin has never felt so soft, smooth and refreshed as it has while I've been using this product.  I've noticed pigmented areas on my face diminishing, and the places where I normally get break outs are clear.

Step #5: Serums

The final step before continuing on to a moisturizer is to apply any type of additional serum of your choosing.  For most people this is usually an acne or anti-aging serum.  It is important to do this step after the toner because it is at this point that your skin is most primed to benefit from these additional serums.

The only serum I currently use is Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Power Serum.  I started noticing my fine lines diminishing within a few weeks of using this product and definitely plan on re-purchasing once it is finished.  This is the first anti-aging product I have ever used, and chose this specific one because of it's plant-based formula.

Step #6: Moisturizer

The next step in the process is the moisturizer!  You should be moisturizing your face after you shower, before you apply makeup, and before you go to bed at night.  You should always choose a moisturizer based upon your skin type.  Moisturizing helps in the natural healing of your skin, helps protect it against damaging chemicals, and can promote skin cell regeneration and stop premature wrinkles.

I have one moisturizer that I use for during the day and before makeup application, and another one that I use primarily at night.  My current favorite night time moisturizer is Origins High-Potency Night-A-Mins.  This product is very rich and creamy, and packed with extra vitamins and minerals to bring ultimate hydration into the skin.

Step #7: Eye Cream

The final step in my night time skin care routine is eye cream.  The skin around your eyes are thinner and more sensitive, and needs to be treated delicately.  A regular moisturizer should not be used in this area because your dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines or wrinkles need extra care.  Eye creams should be applied in a gentle dabbing motion working inwards towards your nose.

My eye cream favorite for quite some time has been Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream.  It makes my under-eye area feel hydrated and refreshed with a cooling sensation as I apply it to my skin.  Over time I have noticed it has made my eyes brighter, my dark circles less noticeable, and puffiness has completely diminished.

I am always tweaking and changing up my skin care routine to include new and better products.  Using this routine I have found that my skin is always clean, clear and refreshed.

Nighttime Skin Care and Makeup Removal Routine

Your nighttime skin care routine is extremely important in that it can greatly influence how good your skin looks and feels.  It is important to remove all makeup, cleanse thoroughly, and moisturize daily.  Taking care of your skin FIRST is beauty rule number one!

Recently on my weekly excursion to Target I came across two new products from Biore that were so unique I knew I immediately wanted to include them in my nightly skin care routine.  I was excited to try the Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub and Baking Soda Pore Cleanser because the ingredients looked like they would mix well with my combination skin.

Nighttime Skin Care and Makeup Removal Routine

Night Time Skin Care Routine

1. Remove makeup with makeup removing cream or wipes (depending on what you have), and stubborn eye makeup with makeup removing oil.

2. Clean the face with Biore Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub, perfect for combination skin.

3. Deep clean pores with Biore Baking Soda Pore Cleanser for super clear skin.  Also perfect for combination skin!

  4. Moisturize with hydrating a face lotion, anti-aging cream, and eye cream.

How To Use Biore's Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub

Biore's Baking Soda Powder Scrub is perfect for cleansing combination skin.  I find that my skin is oily during the summer and dry during the winter, and this Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub is great for year-round use.  I saw results within my first week of using the scrub.  My face felt extraordinarily refreshed and clean, even after an entire night's sleep.

When I first purchased this product I was intrigued by the idea that is is actually a powder that activates with water instead of a pre-made solution.   It naturally dissolves so there is no chance I can over-scrub my sensitive and delicate skin.  The smell is so good and natural, not chemically, and makes me feel like I am actually applying something good to my face.

Nighttime Skin Care and Makeup Removal Routine

1. Wet face with lukewarm water.

2. Dispense a quarter sized amount of the powder scrub in the palm of your hand.  I love the lid function on this product; the push button avoids letting moisture into the bottle, keeping it fresh for every use.

3. Add water to activate the cleanser and make it fizz!  More water will make the cleanser more gentle, giving you complete control over to decide what works best for your skin.

4. Massage the scrub over the entire face, which will provide the skin with a deep clean and gentle exfoliation.

5. Rinse face thoroughly with lukewarm water.

6. Pat skin dry and proceed with normal moisturizing routine.

Nighttime Skin Care Tips

1. Always follow a deep clean with a moisturizing face cream, even if you have oily or combination skin!

2. After cleansing make sure to pat dry your face with a new, clean and gentle face or hand towel.  One of the best ways to ensure you are not spreading oil, germs or other bacteria around your face is to always follow this step.

3. Make sure you are choosing skin care cleansing products that are correct for your skin type, but don't be afraid to experiment!

If you find that your skin is more oily and less combination, I have loved using Biore's Charcoal Products during the summer months when my skin is extra oily.  Every skin type is different, and it is fun to explore new products and see what works best for you!

January Beauty and Style Loves and Favorites

January Beauty and Style Loves and Favorites

My favorites for the month of January include both low-end and high-end products, scents, mousses, palettes, and more!  January was an amazing month for new beauty collection launches, and it's exciting to see what else will be released as we move closer to spring.

On an even more exciting note: at the beginning of next month we will be moving from New York to Portland, Oregon! It is an exciting and busy time, but don't think for one moment that means this blog will be going weeks without a post.  I am 100% committed and already have posts pre-planned and scheduled!

We will be driving across the county to out new home, stopping in places like Nashville, New Orleans, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and many National Parks and monuments in between!  In other words, you will be seeing A LOT of of journey on social media.  If you haven't already, make sure you are following me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Snap Chat (AshEliz24) to follow along with us on this amazing journey!

This 28 shade eyeshadow palette is filled with highly pigmented multi-dimensional metallics (or "foils") that give an amazing pop of color to any eye makeup look.  The texture is creamy and smooth, and they are a great dupe for the Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows.  I have loved using the brighter colors in my inner corner or lower lash line to infuse a pop of bright color.  Even better, the price for this palette is basically a steal.

I basically stalked the Sephora website waiting for this palette to become available.  Needless to say, it didn't disappoint.  This palette comes with three blushes, a bronzer, and a highlight shade.  One of the blush shades Angel, a champagne nude shimmer, I have tended to use as a highlight shade because it works better in that way on my olive skin tone.  The highlight shade OC, a soft peach with pink shift, has definitely been my most used pan in this palette.  It leaves a soft, glowing sheen on the tops of my cheekbones and reflects light amazingly.  I do think this palette will best fit light to medium skin tones, as the shades may not show up that well on darker skin tones.

Ever since I received a free sample of this fragrance is has, hands down, been my go-to perfume.  I am not usually a fan of floral scents, but the rich spiciness counteracts most of what I don't like about fruity floral scents.  This ultra feminine scent feels seductive, empowering, and luxurious.  A classic fragrance that I will always repurchase.  Next fragrance I will be trying is Tom Ford's Black Orchid, which is more woodsy, warm and spicy, with sweet undertones.

St. Moritz Instant Self Tanning Mousse

I have been through years of self tanning products, and it has come down St. Moritz's Instant Self Tanning Mousse as being my all time favorite.  During my late teens and early college years I heavily used tanning beds (BAD!).  I started my search for self tanning products and methods when I started realizing the damage I was doing to my body through UV tanning.  I feel like I have tried every single drugstore and high end product, and so far this one has been my favorite.  I love mousses over sprays and lotions, and apply this with a sunless tanning mitt.  It gives beautifully dark, non-streaky and non-orange all over coverage.  The only con is that it is not long lasting.  I find myself re-applying after just a few days, but it is a sacrifice I am willing to make for the deep tan color payoff.

Tarte Tartiest Contour Palette

I'll admit, I hummed and thought about this palette for a while before I bought it.  The thing that was holding me back: I LOVE Tarte, but do I really need ANOTHER contour palette?  I was still madly in love (and still am) with Kat Von D's Shade and Light Contour Palette.  Tartiest is now my absolutely favorite contour palette.  The powders are velvety soft and satiny, very blendable, and easy to apply.  The blush is a perfect muted pink, the cool tone contour shades create perfect shadows, and I am in love with the yellow correcting shade for setting my under eye area.  Also, the smell is fantastic!  It is a hard scent to describe (you will have to see for yourself), but quite possible like a candy-scented cocoa.

RCMA No Color Powder

This is the new IT powder and I feel so fortunate to have been able to grab one before they went out of stock.  Word of advice: if you have not gotten your hands on RCMA's NC Powder, STALK their website until you do because it is 100% worth the hype.  It is a comparable dupe to Laura Mercier's Translucent Loose Setting Powder, and at 1/3 of the price.  It sets my under eye concealer and cleans up my contour, leaving is flawless, soft and smooth.

I hope you enjoyed my monthly favorites! Make sure you check out my latest post on 7 Must-Have ELF Beauty Products!
